Set the flint up properly the take the firearm to into a dark room no light. With no powder in the gun Trigger the action while observing for sparks. Assuming the flint is being held tightly so it doesn't move when it strikes the frizzen. If no sparks fly the frizzen is bad and would need replacing.They shoot most accuretly if the clearance is .003 or less. That's a pretty snug fit and can be pretty hard to load in a fouled bore. BUT... they're shooters.That bullet had a Muzzle Velocity of 1058 and 1407 ft/lb of energy. A patched .570 diameter roundball with an 80 grain load of GOEX 2Fg had a breech pressure of 5,200 psi and a muzzle velocity of 1288. Pull the wedges and lift the barrel out of the stock. Do remove the nipple, maybe even that flash channel manufacturing plug that some call a clean out screw. Put the breech in a bucket of water. American Rev war packs were often haversack style with two straps. The 'New Pattern' was the same with a strap that went over both deltoids and cross body.
